Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Dan Macias
Dan serves as Edgewater’s Chief Operating Officer. He is a seasoned leader with over 35 years of experience spanning the DOE complex. His expertise includes more than 20 years of dedicated support to the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP), Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL), and Y-12 National Security Site, focusing on project management and integration. Notable achievements include leading the completion of Vision 2020 ahead of schedule during his tenure as ETTP Cleanup Enterprise Manager, resulting in savings of $80 million for taxpayers and the avoidance of $500 million in environmental liabilities. In his capacity as Oak Ridge Reservation Site Integration and Cleanup program manager, he directed a team of over 650 individuals in executing cleanup operations at ORNL, Y-12, and ETTP.
Mr. Macias spearheaded several significant projects, including the successful Deactivation and Demolition (D&D) of two nuclear reactors at ORNL, the demolition of the Biology Complex at Y-12, and the excavation and disposal of over 300,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil at ETTP. He also oversaw the completion of Vision 2020 and the D&D of 450 remaining structures at the ETTP footprint ahead of schedule and under budget, despite challenges posed by the global pandemic. Notable projects within this effort included addressing highly contaminated facilities like the Poplar Creek facilities and K-1037, as well as the complex K-1200 Centrifuge Complex with a 180-foot tower. Major remediation tasks included the cleanup of the K-832 Basin, involving the pumping and treatment of 2 million gallons of contaminated water, and the restoration of the K-25 footprint, which necessitated the removal of over 90,000 cubic yards of technetium-99 contaminated soil.
Mr. Macias’ leadership played a pivotal role in these accomplishments, recognized through accolades such as the Washington Executive Pinnacle Award for Government Team Project of the Year for 2020, in partnership with DOE OREM. Furthermore, the completion of excess facilities demolition at ETTP in the fall of 2020 earned Mr. Macias and his team the Secretary of Energy’s Team Award for Fiscal Year 2020, acknowledged by DOE OREM as a significant achievement.
